As of December 31st 2023, The Tayba Foundation reports that there are over 350,000 incarcerated Muslims in the US prison system (see ref link below). This is a staggering amount of individuals who have entered as Muslims or embraced Islam while serving time. Of this total, there are hundreds upon hundreds across the US who taken shahadah on a monthly basis. Islam200 reps have help facilitated numerous shahadahas at the Harford County Detention Centers, Harford County Maryland since 2014. AllahuAkbar!!
As Muslims align to the ever so popular hadith; "The Muslim Ummah is like one body. If one part is in pain, the whole body should feel the pain.” (Sahih Muslim 2586). The utmost care must be addressed by those who can support such inmates, this is the Muslim Ummah's basic responsibility to stand for the rights of the Muslims who have been deemed unfit for society. Let alone stand for justice, equality, prisoner-rights ands fight for Islamic freedoms for those without a voice. DO YOUR PART - DONATE TODAY !!
We here at Islam200, have established such grounds to assist our Muslim brethren (which includes our incarcerated sisters) to assist them with all their Islamic needs while serving time. There is always ongoing support needed, while they face their trials, complete sentences, and seek release-dates, while making all attempts to reassemble back into society.
Over very own; Islam200 Ustadh Hasan has been serving as a rotational Imam & khateeb for over a decade at the Harford County Detention Centers [HCDC]. Over the past decade, hundreds of copies of the Holy Quran, prayers rugs, unlimited # of hadith books, kuffi’s, and various other essentials have been requested and provided to the Muslim population. Alongside these materials, new reverts are provided with New-Muslim Welcome Packets and are given special attention to their needs. As you know this is a never-ending cost, which in essence is a form of Saddaqa Jaariah. Help support this area of importance.
Another area of importance that Islam200 caters to- is the afterlife of the detainee, as they complete their sentences and are released back into society. A new level of direction is needed, in many cases from day-1.
As you know, convicted felons have the hardest time finding suitable employment, let alone being branded as a Muslim (which does carry a shade of prejudice in a Non-Muslim society). This dilemma can lead to severe negative outcomes, as the individual's faith is tested. As Muslims, we must step-in and assist, no released individual should face this pressure all alone.
We hare at Islam200, have designed an excellent proven approach on assisting inmates upon their release. We have coined the idea to assist such individuals in fragments. Upon initial release, the inmates are provided with some monetary cash assistance, day-to-day living wage and 1 month of housing (if no family or friend network is not available). This initial offering comes with a written signed-agreement that the individual will seek proper employment avenues from day 1 onward.
Furthermore, a journal-book will be provided, which must be kept as a daily entry log of activities, what work opportunities were sought, whom was contacted, and will include notes of progress. This journal can become a means of pride and eventually turn into success.
From there, this journal will be reviewed each month by an Islam200 rep and a judgement call will be given to assist for the following month. Each month the stipend will be lowered and made clear after (6) months the individual will not receive further assistance. Thus transitioning them back into a more positive setting in society.
Your financial help is extremely vital in the aftermath of their incarceration.
Death in Jail are words that have fright upon fright intertwined in them. Now read those words with a fourth word added: Muslim Death in Jail. “From Allah we come, To Allah we Return” (2:156). As believers we know that the passage from this life is inevitable, we are all surely on borrowed time granted by Allah. Now when we hear of a Muslim Inmate passing in prison, this becomes the responsibility of the local Muslims to act upon Fard Kifayah (Islamic communal responsibility).
Islam200 – Imam Hasan is always on call, to attend to the proper sending of any Muslim passing. Working with the family (if that option exists), coordinating a proper Muslim Burial, aligining with the coroner, and rendering the cost for such actions to be taken.
